Event Description
The European Alliance to Save Energy is delighted to host the second edition of European Energy Efficiency Day. This high-level policy conference will bring together prominent policymakers, business stakeholders and representatives of civil society organisations to discuss how to advance energy efficiency as a practical, cost-effective and equitable solution for decarbonizing Europe in line with the objectives of the EU’s Green Deal.
Over the past two years, the urgency and seriousness of Europe’s energy crisis has become a central focus of the EU’s attention, driven by soaring energy prices and energy security concerns stemming from the war in Ukraine. This energy crisis has not only underscored the vital importance of saving and optimising energy but has also shed light on the multiple benefits energy efficiency for Europe’s economy, society and of course, the climate.
The EU leads the global drive for energy efficiency, boasting some of the most progressive policies worldwide aimed at advocating and enacting energy efficiency across its Member States. Examples include adopted legislations such as the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) that raises the EU`s 2030 energy efficiency to 11.7% and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, currently under revision, that aims to decarbonise the EU building stock by 2050 proposing ambitious minimum energy performance standards.
The EU host some of the world leaders in energy efficiency solutions. In fact, improving energy efficiency across sectors including buildings, home appliances, industrial processes and transport can all be achieved by using existing solutions and technologies developed within Europe.
Energy efficiency is good for economic growth and jobs creation, is good for competitiveness - energy efficiency efforts can help companies save significant costs by lowering or optimising the demand required to run their operations - and is good for the environment.
In this context, the European Alliance to Save Energy (EU-ASE) will be organising the second edition of the European Energy Efficiency Day on October 12, 2023. Throughout five sessions, participants will discuss the future of the energy efficiency ecosystem from a wide range of perspectives, including ongoing negotiations at the EU level, industry innovation, the wellbeing of European citizens, and the significant challenge of skill availability and skill development.
Confirmed speakers include:
- Ciarán Cuffe, Member of the European Parliament, Rapporteur on the EPBD recast
- Manuela Geleng, Director for Skills, DG EMPL, European Commission
- Nicolás González Casares, Member of the European Parliament, Rapporteur on the Electricity Market Design
