There are 14.5 million outdoor workers in Europe. However, they are generally unaware that they are twice as likely to get non-melanoma skin cancer as a result of their occupation.
UV solar radiation is classified by the World Health Organisation as group 1 carcinogen, and is the leading cause of cancer worldwide.
Currently there is no EU-wide requirement to protect workers at risk.
This policy debate aims to promote a dialogue and facilitate an understanding of the need for action to better protect Europe’s outdoor workers.
