Cosmetics Europe represents the interests of more than 2000 companies ranging from major international cosmetics manufacturers to small family-run businesses operating in niche markets. Together, these employ more than 500,000 people within the European Union.
The products that come within the scope of Cosmetics Europe extend across a divers range that includes essential personal hygiene products such as deodorant, shampoo and toothpaste as well as beauty preparations.
More than 5 billion personal hygiene items are sold every year. Virtually everyone in Europe uses at least one product every day, soap for example. The average consumer spends the same amount on cosmetics as they spend on bread.
Decisions to buy and use of cosmetics are closely linked to lifestyle. That makes research and development vital to the cosmetics industry as manufacturers respond to increasingly sophisticated consumer demand.
The members of Cosmetics Europe are committed to continuing development of safe, innovative and effective products. Their mission is to meet consumer desires for new and enhanced products and to provide useful and more comprehensive product information.
