Event Description

GIGAEurope, which represents gigabit-speed connectivity providers in Europe, is delighted to invite you to its virtual launch event.

The programme will feature representatives from the European Commission and the European Parliament, as well as executives from the connectivity industry, including Nick Read, CEO Vodafone Group and Mike Fries, CEO Liberty Global.

Irina Varlan, Managing Director GIGAEurope, said: “As COVID-19 continues to cause a significant uptake of digital services, connectivity providers have stepped up to keep our societies and economies connected during the pandemic. Now, more than ever, it’s crucial that the industry speaks with one voice, to ensure it can continue to meet the critical needs of society."

A panel will exchange ideas on what is needed to further increase the rollout of gigabit networks and the uptake of secure and reliable digital services, and to achieve a gigabit society. It will consider what it will take to make this shift economically viable, green and inclusive, as well as ask what we can learn from the impact of COVID-19.

The discussion will be moderated by Jennifer Baker, Freelance EU Correspondent. The following speakers have been confirmed

  • Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, MEP, Vice-Chair of the Special Committee on Artificial Intelligence in a Digital Age, Member of ITRE
  • Anthony Whelan, Digital Policy Adviser, Cabinet of President von der Leyen, European Commission
