Event Description
Prostate Cancer is on the rise and the most frequent cancer in men. In fact, it is the third most common cause of death in men in Europe, with important consequences for healthcare systems. Saving lives and ensuring a high quality of life requires immediate European actions. European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day is an initiative started by Europa Uomo which the European Association of Urology and the European Cancer Patient Coalition are pleased to continue to support.
Policy makers, scientific experts, European associations working in the urological field and representatives of European patient groups with an interest in prostate disease will come together in the European Parliament. The meeting is organised by the European Association of Urology and the European Prostate Cancer Coalition (Europa Uomo). Alojz Peterle MEP, the current chair of the MEPs Against Cancer (MAC) Group has agreed to co-host this event together with Marian Harkin MEP and the European Association of Urology. ECPC President, Francesco De Lorenzo will speak about role of patients and the importance of European Prostate Cancer Awareness Day.
The aims of the event will be:
- To raise awareness, understanding and knowledge of the management of prostate cancer
- To call on the European Commission and other EU institutions to raise awareness on Prostate Cancer and what the EU can do to support positive change
- To publicise the White Paper and to receive a response from the European Commission on how they have taken the advice into consideration
- To build on the structure of the White Paper to develop a 10-point action plan for the EU arising from the meeting
