Event Description
The EPC and the Bertelsmann Stiftung are pleased to invite you to the final conference of their joint project Creating Second Career Labour Markets - Towards more Employment Opportunities for Older Workers, on 5 December.
Having a job is a key factor for people’s well-being and a high employment rate is vital for sustaining Europe’s welfare model and ensuring inclusive growth. But the reality does not seem to support this evidence: 49.1% of 55-64 year olds are economically inactive in the EU27 and many of them do not have either the skills or the physical capacity required, or are discouraged from being on the labour market.
As a contribution to the “European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity Between Generations”, our joint project investigated how to make the labour market more inclusive for older workers and provide them with new job opportunities that better match their needs. This conference will present the results of the project, including innovative solutions to create a second career labour market for older workers, as well as identifying measures for enhancing their employability.
The project findings will be illustrated by video clips of older workers in Europe and will include a series of policy recommendations which will be debated by our high level panel after a keynote speech by László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.
The panel will include Elsa Fornero, Italian Minister for Employment and Social Policy, Michel Sapin, French Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Dialogue, Pervenche Berès, Member of the European Parliament, Juan Menéndez-Valdés, Director of Eurofound, and Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General of AGE.
The conference will be co-chaired by Aart De Geus, CEO and Member of the Executive Board of the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and Hans Martens, EPC Chief Executive.
We very much hope that you will attend. Prior registration is essential. Please confirm your participation by replying to: n.news@epc.eu
