Event Description
Journalists are kindly invited to attend the PES Congress, where Socialist Prime Ministers, Commissioners, party leaders, delegates, activists and international guests will gather to formulate PES policy for the upcoming European elections.
At the Congress delegates and the media will also have the opportunity to hear from the newly-elected PES Common Candidate.
Journalists who register will receive the programme and more information ahead of the event.
About the Congress: The Congress is one of the most significant PES gatherings and particularly important in the context of the upcoming 2019 European elections. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Portugese PES member party Partido Socialista. Its leader, the Portugese Prime Minster António Costa, will be among the key speakers at the event.

Date: 7-8 December
Key events and facts:
- The PES Common Candidate will address the congress and media for the first time as an official desegnee
- Adoption of resolutions that will become the cornerstone of the 2019 PES Manifesto
- Speeches and panels with leaders and other prominent figures from the PES family
- Fringe events hosted by groups such as the S&D Group from the European Parliament, PES Women, and the Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS)
- Lisbon in December has much better weather than Helsinki
