Making a splash in the Indo-Pacific – How can Europe strengthen its footprint in the region?
Date
Event Description
On 16 September 2021, the European Council, the Commission and the High Representative presented the EU’s Indo-Pacific Strategy. The new strategy responds to the region’s rising geopolitical and geoeconomic significance. With the rise of the People’s Republic of China, forging new alliances and engaging beyond economic terms is vital for promoting Europe’s global footprint.
The event will critically reflect on the opportunities, challenges and limitations of Europe’s engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. It will discuss how cooperation has evolved in terms of diplomacy, the transformation of partnerships, economic engagement and military cooperation over the last several years. It will also propose recommendations on how to redefine and sharpen Europe’s approach towards the region?
