Event Description

MEP Paul Murphy invites you to a press conference

'Ballyhea bondholders' to present petition to the European Parliament

Tomorrow, Tuesday 17/9/2013 at 2.30pm, Press Room ASP5G2 of the European Parliament.

The "Ballyhea Says No campaign group" will be visiting the European Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday 17th September. They will present a petition regarding the role of the European Union institutions, particularly the European Commission and European Central Bank (ECB,) in pushing for the continued payment of bondholders by the Irish state and the imposition of austerity measures in Ireland.

The "Ballyhea Says No campaign group" has been marching every Sunday in Ballyhea in County Cork, Ireland, for over two years against the bailouts of bondholders and austerity heaped upon people. They have featured prominently in national and international media. In recent months, they have brought this message to the European Commission and European Central Bank. Tomorrow, they will bring it to the European Parliament.

At 12.30pm there will be a photo opportunity in front of the European Parliament, Place Luxemburg entrance, of the handing in of the petition
