Event Description

Venue: International Press Centre "Résidence Palace",

155 Rue de la Loi, 1040 Brussels

May 25th will be an important date in Ukraine’s history. As the country elects its new President, the future of Ukraine hangs in the balance. The outcome of the elections can potentially take Ukraine forward, towards consolidation of its society and democratic institutions. A failure to hold orderly elections, however, could further deepen the political and economic challenges facing the country. A highly fractured political landscape and ongoing crises in several of Ukraine’s regions suggest that these competing tensions will not be resolved easily on polling day.

A panel debate, organised by the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Think Tanks Liaison Office in Brussels, will discuss the political implications of the outcome of this historical election and look at possible scenarios for the political future of Ukraine. It will feature leading Ukrainian political analysts and NGO leaders as well as a senior member of the election observation mission of the European Parliament.
