The Clean Steel Partnership - A driver to net zero, from research to deployment of ground-breaking technologies for steel
Section
Event Description
The Clean Steel Partnership was formally launched in June 2021 in the frame of Horizon Europe in synergy with the Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by representatives of the European Commission and the European Steel Technology Platform (ESTEP).
Aligned with the European Green Deal targets, the partnership supports EU leadership in transforming the steel industry into a carbon-neutral one, serving as a catalyser for other strategic sectors. By 2027 it will implement at least two demonstration projects that could cut CO2 emissions by 50% compared to 1990 levels and achieve technology readiness level 8 by 2030 in at least twelve areas funded by the partnership. The final ambition is to ultimately achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
The success of the partnership could support European steel industry’s role as an important engine of sustainable growth, added-value and high-quality employment in the EU – supporting its competitiveness and that of its downstream sectors, such as automotive, construction and energy generation.
As part of the https://ec.europa.eu/environment/eu-green-week-2022_en">EU Green Week 2022 Partner Event, ESTEP is holding a webinar with focus on "The Clean Steel Partnership: a driver to net zero, from research to deployment of ground- breaking technologies for steel".
The webinar is taking place on 1 June 2022 online from 10:00 to 12:30. Participation is free but registration is needed. You can register www.estep.eu/events/the-clean-steel-partnership-a-driver-to-zero-net-fro...">https://www.estep.eu/events/the-clean-steel-partnership-a-driver-to-zero...">here
