Event Description

In the broader context of the European Green Deal, the European Commission presented in July 2021 the Fit for 55 package, an overhaul of EU energy and climate legislation to support the European Union commitment to achieve 55% net reduction climate target by 2030. Among others, one of the cornerstones of the Package is the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), a proposal to impose a tax on carbon emitted by some materials coming into the EU, as a way to reduce the risk of carbon leakage. Within this framework, the aim of the virtual roundtable is to gather sectoral positions and recommendations from relevant international actors to discuss the implications of the measure on EU industrial competitiveness, in a fruitful one-hour debate.
