IoT WebTalk: Leveraging C-V2X and the Power of Partnership to Create Safer Roads
Section
Event Description
At the end of September 2020, a U.S. based partnership between the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), Virginia Tech Transportation Institute (VTTI), American Tower, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, Traffic Technology Services, and Audi will complete the roll out of C-V2X (Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything) technology on the Virginia Smart Road Test Bed at VTTI for trials and fine tuning, before deploying on Northern Virginia roadways.
The pilot programme highlights how cellular technology, and C-V2X in particular, can improve public safety and driving efficiency. C-V2X is an enhanced 3GPP LTE standard with a sustainable roadmap to 5G that describes a set of technologies enabling communication messages between vehicles, roadside infrastructure and vulnerable road users.
The C-V2X pilot deployment centres around two essential new use cases: i) providing warning of road works and; ii) providing low latency near real-time status of traffic signals. In this IoT WebTalk, the project partners are coming together to discuss their pilot, the aim to improve public safety, and the significance of their cross-ecosystem partnership – and how it could become a blueprint for future deployments to bring societal benefits to market faster.
Join this interactive online session to discover:
- Objective and scope of the C-V2X pilot programme
- The societal benefits, including improved safety, driving efficiency and convenience
- Why forging partnerships across the value chain is fundamental to success
- The need for new and scalable business models
- How short-range and long-range communication modes of C-V2X complement each other
Agenda and Speakers will be announced shortly.
