Event Description

On 13 June from 09.30 to 12.30, Eurelectric will open its office doors in Brussels (Gare Centrale) to unveil Power Plant 2.0 - a first-of-a-kind industry-led guidebook on how to deploy renewables and grid infrastructure while protecting biodiversity.

WWF confirms that a renewable-led decarbonisation can lower risks to biodiversity by 75%. Europe's power sector can play a leading role by jointly tackling the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Our new study – developed by WSP and based on a survey with 25 developers – presents 12 biodiversity principles and 15 real-life case studies to show how solar, wind, hydro and grid projects can benefit nature by integrating biodiversity-friendly practices while keeping a competitive business case. Our aim is to inspire a biodiversity integration approach that could become mainstream across economic sectors.

The event welcomes high-level policymakers, NGOs, and industry leaders such as:

  • Tina Seršen – State Secretary at Ministry of the Environment, Climate & Energy of the Republic of Slovenia
  • Humberto Delgado Rosa – Director for Biodiversity at the European Commission’s DG Environment
  • Noor Yafai – Europe Director, Global Policy and Institutional Partnerships at The Nature Conservancy
  • Bruce Douglas – CEO at the Global Renewables Alliance
  • Andrew Allan – Lead Offshore Environment Manager at SSE Renewables
  • Philippa Nuttall – Editor of Sustainable Views at Financial Times
