Event Description

Join us on 19 October at 16:00 CEST / 10:00 EDT for a high-level discussion organised by EU40 – The Network of Young MEPs, under the auspices of the 2021 Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU, on the topic of transatlantic trade relationships.

The EU and the US are each other’s biggest trade export partners. How does this relationship translate into a democratic, digital governance? What exactly is the importance of technology in transatlantic relationships?

After the EU-US summit held in Brussels in June 2021, leaders on both sides of the Atlantic have agreed to put forward an innovative instrument, aiming at discussing and exploring the way forward: the EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC). Some of the TTC’s objectives include growing the bilateral trade and investment relationship; strengthening global cooperation on technology, digital issues and supply chains; and promoting innovation and leadership by US and European firms.

In this high-level discussion, we will tackle the interdependence between the EU and the US when it comes to digital transformation, whilst looking at the current and potential collaboration opportunities of trusted partners.

Panel:

– Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth

– Mark Boris Andrijanič, Slovenian Minister for Digital Transformation

– Eva Kaili, Member of the European Parliament (S&D), EU40 President
