Event Description

Join us for a breakfast event, that will bring together policy experts, policymakers and practitioners for insight and discussion on the latest EU policy developments in eIDAS. Breakfast will be served at 08:30 before we embark on an in-depth discussion (starting at 09:00) focusing on the risks to web security in current EU policymaking.

Cybersecurity risks are becoming a real concern in an increasingly volatile world where democracies are under pressure and authoritarian states are rewriting the rules of a new world order. Governments are taking measures to protect citizens, economies and infrastructure, which raises the question: what does it take to keep our internet secure? There is an extensive website security ecosystem behind our daily interactions on the web – from using your credit card online to sharing medical information – protecting individuals against fraud and state-sponsored surveillance.

The event comes at a time when tech policy and cybersecurity dominate the EU’s legislative agenda for coming months. Mozilla has been campaigning resolutely against Article 45.2 in the margins of the EU eIDAS Regulation as they believe it threatens some of the fundamentals of online security.

Speaking at the event:

- Karen Melchior, MEP and Renew Shadow Rapporteur for eIDAS in the European Parliament

- Eric "Ekr" Rescorla, Chief Technology Officer at Firefox

- Scott Helme, Security Researcher & the BBC's hacker in residence

- More to be confirmed.

The event will be in person only in order to best facilitate an open and earnest discussion.
