An existing literature agrees that drug innovation has a significant average effect on extending longevity and improving quality of life. Recognizing the life-saving benefits from the development of new drugs, one of the key decisions faced by the authorities is how to bolster pharmaceutical innovation, and how to bear in mind the potential effects on drug innovation of policies that affect market size, such as policies towards intellectual property rights, procurement mechanisms and competition policy.

Event Description
EuroCommerce invites you to the 2nd EuroCommerce SME Day, a great opportunity to look into the life of SMEs as the Small Business Act celebrates its fifth anniversary, and the role they play in the supply chain.
The day will start with a keynote address from EuroCommerce President, Dame Lucy Neville-Rolfe, and Cabinet Member of Commission Vice-President Tajani, Massimo Baldinato.
The morning panel discussion will address the progress achieved in the five years since the adoption of the Small Business Act which was aimed at improving the business environment for SMEs in Europe. EU policy makers, small and medium-sized retailers and wholesalers will debate their experiences and challenges lying ahead. They will also touch upon specific key aspects of the Small Business Act such as innovation, investing in skills and addressing the skills mismatch, and promoting an entrepreneurial spirit in communities.
The afternoon panel will focus on the role of SMEs in the supply chain. A Commission representative will share future EU-level initiatives on business-to-business trading relationships while retailers and their SME suppliers will present testimonials of good practice on how working together brings mutual benefit.
EuroCommerce is the voice for six million retail, wholesale and other trading companies in Europe, and these companies represent one-third of all SMEs in the EU. They are the backbone of our economy, and this SME Day is an opportunity for the commerce sector to exchange views with the European Institutions and stakeholders on major challenges that SMEs entrepreneurs face daily running their business.
