Webinar - 4evergreen and PPWR Implementation: Technical Clarifications

Event Description
Brussels, 11 May 2026 – On June 9th, 4evergreen is organising a webinar exploring what the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) recyclability requirements mean in practice for paper-based packaging.
As the PPWR enters the implementation phase, questions are arising around how recyclability requirements can be interpreted and applied consistently across the paper‑based packaging value chain, while avoiding fragmentation and divergent approaches. This webinar explores these questions.
Well before PPWR entered the legislative arena, 4evergreen has developed science‑based guidance on recyclability and Design for Recycling (DfR), in cooperation with stakeholders across the paper‑based packaging value chain. Building on this work, the webinar examines common technical questions, recurring misconceptions and implementation challenges currently associated with PPWR.
The session provides insight into how value chain‑aligned and consensus‑based approaches can support the implementation of PPWR, including their relevance for ongoing European standardisation work. It presents existing technical frameworks and their role in supporting a more consistent interpretation of recyclability requirements.
The webinar also situates these elements within 4evergreen’s broader Technical Toolbox, outlining how its deliverables contribute to a coherent and science‑based approach to circularity for paper‑based packaging.
About 4evergreen
4evergreen is a cross-industry alliance perfecting the circularity of paper-based packaging to contribute to a climate-neutral and sustainable society. Our goal is to raise the overall recycling rate of paper-based packaging to 90% by 2030. We bring a particular focus on packaging with a lower circularity performance today, namely the types used for household, out-of-home and on-the-go consumption. The alliance brings together over 100 industry leaders from across the paper-based packaging value-chain, from pulp, paper and board manufacturers and recyclers to packaging producers and converters, including food and drink brand owners, retailers, and waste management companies. It also comprises non-paper material suppliers (e.g., adhesives, inks, coatings), technology providers (e.g., machinery, collection, and recycling solutions), and leading research institutes.
Overall, our members employ 4 million people all over the world, with a consolidated annual turnover of over 1.9 trillion euros. All our members have set ambitious targets, clearly showcasing their commitment to addressing the most pressing global challenges.
The host of the initiative is Cepi, the Confederation of European Paper Industries, headquartered in Brussels.
