Trade & Technology Council: Renewing the Transatlantic Partnership
Section
Event Description
The event will be livestreamed here and on YouTube.
After years of political tensions, representatives from the United States and the European Union are trying to repair the transatlantic partnership and leverage it to address major global challenges. The recently launched EU-US Trade and Technology Council (TTC) aims to serve as a forum for the EU and the US to coordinate approaches to key global trade, economic, and technology issues, as well as deepen transatlantic ties. The inaugural meeting of the TTC was held in September 2021 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and another one is expected to follow in 2022. Expectations are high on both sides of the Atlantic that the TTC will be more than an empty promise.
Will the TTC lead to a breakthrough in transatlantic trade, innovation, and joint standards on emerging technologies? Is this the EU-US response to our common geopolitical threats? Or will the TTC suffer the fate of previous trade and investment partnerships which never produced an outcome that matched their ambition?
