In a setting of significant change within the HE sector and amongst the creative industries with which specialist institutions in the arts and design connect, the conference will consider the future for teaching, learning and scholarship in the subjects we offer. ‘Imagining the Future’ will be informed by an analysis which takes account of the political, economic, social and technological forces currently at play.

The conference welcomes academics and practitioners interested and associated with arts and design and those concerned with sustaining and enhancing the UK record of excellence in our creative industries.

The 2014 ukadia Conference will take place on Wednesday 26th February at Ravensbourne, in their fantastic building opposite the O2. In addition, Ravensbourne will host the Conference Dinner on Tuesday 25th February, as well as the Private View of the first collaborative exhibition to involve work by students from across ukadia’s member institutions.

Over twenty students are currently working on pieces which will be exhibited at Ravensbourne during the conference. The students have been asked to work on the theme of Mapping Territory, which was chosen because of the wide geographical spread of ukadia member institutions. The students have attended lectures and additional tutorials on the subject of mapping, and are documenting their progress on a blog which can be viewed at http://nalnproject.wordpress.com/

The collaborative project is the first project run by the National Arts Learning Network (NALN) Progression Managers, since NALN’s funding ended and it became incorporated into ukadia in 2009. NALN was a HEFCE-funded widening participation lifelong learning network. The Mapping Territories project aims to offer professional development to students who have entered HE through a Progression Agreement or other widening participation scheme.
