The world of work is changing rapidly and the Covid-19 pandemic is only accelerating this evolution. The use of digital tools and of online talent platforms is on the rise, raising questions on the working conditions and social protection for people working via such platforms. But online talent platforms are not homogeneous and the employment status, working conditions and social protection they offer can vary considerably.
As the European Commission prepares a proposal for a legislative initiative on improving working conditions for platform workers, the World Employment Confederation-Europe is bringing together experts from the European Parliament, the European Commission, the online talent platform economy and the Centre for European Policy Studies to discuss how best to address the working conditions for online talent platform workers. The European Parliament is currently working on an own initiative report on “Fair working conditions, rights and social protection for platform workers”.
The webconference will take place on Wednesday 24 February, from 12:00 to 13:30 CET. Speakers include:
- Max Uebe, Head of Unit, DG Employment, European Commission
- Sylvie Brunet, Member of the European Parliament (rapporteur, Renew Europe, FR)
- Adam Kosa, Member of the European Parliament (shadow rapporteur, EPP, HU)
- Frederik Fahning, Founder and Managing Director of Zenjob
- Willem Pieter de Groen, Senior Research Fellow, CEPS
Experts from the private employment services industry will also contribute to the debate, sharing their experience of offering services via digital platforms.
