Event Description
The Steering Group on Prevention of Respiratory Infections is delighted to invite you to our annual event, the first since our evolution from the Steering Group on Influenza Vaccination. The event will explore how the influenza policy framework can serve as a model for effective EU action on immunisation against other respiratory infections like COVID-19, RSV and pneumococcal disease.
Hosted at the European Parliament in Brussels by Member of European Parliament Billy Kelleher (Renew Europe, Ireland), the event will mark the launch of our new manifesto, highlighting our call for a new Council Recommendation on the value of immunisation against respiratory infections in order to reflect the growing burden they pose across Europe and their severe impact on healthcare systems.
The conversation will feature a personal testimony, offering a moving perspective on the real-life impact of RSV, a presentation of Ireland as a case study for prevention by former Irish Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, and a panel discussion about how policymakers can draw on influenza as a policy blueprint to increase immunisation against COVID-19, RSV, and pneumococcal disease.
