Event Description
The Bertelsmann Stiftung and the EPC are pleased to invite you to the launch conference of their joint project `Creating second career labour markets - Towards more employment opportunities for older workers´, on 20 June, 4.00 to 6.00 pm.
Against the backdrop of an ageing population and a shrinking work force, Europe needs to find innovative solutions to tackle the major social and economic challenges posed by these demographic trends. The economic impact of an ageing population is considerable. The increasingly high number of older workers leaving the labour market is putting a strain on national social security systems in Europe. For this to be sustainable, it is essential to introduce more flexibility in the labour market and to find innovative solutions that will enable older workers to remain economically active and enhance their employability.
Due to the diverse practices and regulations in the member states, the scope for action varies considerably across Europe and thus calls for a multi-faceted approach. However, any systematic attempt to tap the full potential of this diversity by learning from good practice is largely missing from the political and public debate. As a contribution to the `European Year of Active Ageing and Solidarity Between Generations´, this project aims to stimulate the debate on `active ageing at work´ by identifying, analysing and comparing innovative solutions that can be of interest for the relevant stakeholders: government, social partners, business and individuals.
This conference aims to give a first impetus to the debate by looking at different policy approaches in Europe. A number of distinguished policymakers and experts will discuss opportunities and challenges from a European and national perspective and present what they consider to be the priorities for their respective countries.
Speakers will include:
László Andor, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion
Ursula von der Leyen, German Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs
Sven Otto Littorin, former Swedish Minister for Employment.
The conference will be chaired by Aart De Geus, Member of the Executive Board of the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and Hans Martens, EPC Chief Executive.
We very much hope that you will attend. Prior registration is essential. Please confirm your participation by replying to: n.news@epc.eu
