With many untapped markets still offering huge potential to European exporters, an ambitious external trade strategy is essential for growth. Whether negotiated multilaterally (through the WTO), or bilaterally (directly by the EU), trade deals can open previously difficult markets to European firms. However, the benefits that flow from such agreements can only become real provided the agreed rules are respected. In many cases, they are, but in some, the are not.
In our latest report Prof. Dr. Simon Evenett investigates how EU trade enforcement has evolved over time, assesses the current state of play, and makes clear recommendations for the future.
