An existing literature agrees that drug innovation has a significant average effect on extending longevity and improving quality of life. Recognizing the life-saving benefits from the development of new drugs, one of the key decisions faced by the authorities is how to bolster pharmaceutical innovation, and how to bear in mind the potential effects on drug innovation of policies that affect market size, such as policies towards intellectual property rights, procurement mechanisms and competition policy.

You are cordially invited to attend the 5th European Innovation Summit, which will take place from 30th of September until 3rd of October in the European Parliament. The summit is taking place under the ‘Patronage’ of the President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz and will feature some 25 events including a Closing and Opening ceremony, a series of conference sessions, workshops, breakfast, lunch and dinner debates organised by summit partners, receptions as well as an exhibition, two press breakfasts and a press conference. Key speakers will include: several Commissioners, 30 MEPs, Prof. Anne Glover, Chief Scientific Adviser to the European Commission President, Prof. Burton Lee, Lecturer, European Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Stanford School of Engineering, Robert-Jan Smits, Director General, European Commission, DG Research&Innovation, Richard Pelly, Chief Executive Officer of the European Investment Fund, Kristin Danielsen, EUREKA Chairwoman, International Director of The Research Council of Norway, Former President of the European Parliament, Jerzy Buzek, as well as the Rapporteurs for Horizon 2020, the Structural Funds and the MFF.
The 5th European Innovation Summit will not only focus on the implementation of the new instruments, but also seek to identify the remaining barriers to innovation and how they can be overcome to “make innovation happen” in Europe. A summit declaration, listing “5 calls to wake up Europe” will be presented during press conference and the Closing event.
Following the success story of the previous summits, when more than 300 speakers, including the Presidents of the European Parliament and the European Commission, and some 3000 innovation stakeholders from Europe and beyond engaged in the debate, we expect more than 700 stakeholders,policy makers, practitioners and academics to join.
