Making Ends Meet - Pay and Work Conditions in the Agency Work Industry
Section
Event Description
With inflation reaching a concerning level and the cost of living rising across the European Union, we are witnessing increasing pressure on Europeans’ purchasing power and concerns about workers’ wage levels. To feed the debate, the World Employment Confederation-Europe organises a webinar on 29 June to discuss with EU stakeholders how we can ensure adequate and fair wages, drawing on the experience of the agency work sector.
Ensuring adequate and fair wages is high on the European political agenda, especially in the context of the rising living costs since 2021. The fall in real wages can lead to social risks, particularly for low-wage earners, and has prompted renewed discussion on the living wage in some markets and an increase in the statutory minimum wage in others.
Following up on its strategic issue paper published in April 2023, the World Employment Confederation-Europe organises a webinar on 29 June to discuss with EU stakeholders how to ensure adequate and fair wages and decent working conditions. The WEC-Europe paper documents that the agency work sector offers sufficient and appropriate wages. It provides social protection thanks to innovative systems designed and deployed through social dialogue.
