Event Description

Buildings are a priority sector for the EU Green Deal. Higher ambition on building renovation will not only deliver important emission reductions, but will also help relaunch our economy, create jobs and reduce our dependence on energy imports. The diversity of European buildings requires a mix of energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart energy solutions optimised at local level. There is no one-size-fits-all solution!

The EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) was originally adopted in 2010 and revised in 2018, with a view to improving the energy performance and increasing the rate of renovation of commercial and residential buildings in the EU, and thereby help the EU meet its long term climate and energy goals. As part of the Fit for 55 package, the Commission adopted a legislative proposal to revise the EPBD on 15 December 2021. In the European Parliament, the ITRE committee appointed Ciarán Cuffe MEP (Greens/EFA, Ireland) as rapporteur. His draft report was made available in June 2022.

This Sustainable Energy Day* event, hosted by COGEN Europe and the PACE project, will feature a high-level policy debate on buildings decarbonisation complemented by a series of best practices. These examples will showcase how energy systems integration at local, district and building level will play a key role in boosting energy efficiency, integrating higher shares of renewables and reducing energy costs for consumers.

This event will take place in Brussels (Rue de la Loi 42) from 14:00 until 16:00 (followed by a Networking Reception). You are welcome to attend the event either in person or online (via Microsoft Teams). Registration is free of charge. You can find more information about the event on the COGEN Europe website.

* This COGEN Europe / PACE Project event takes place during the European Sustainable Energy Week (organised by the European Commission and CINEA) and is included in the official list of Sustainable Energy Days.
