Event Description
PLEASE REGISTER HERE BY 2 OCTOBER
Finance professionals have an important role to play in delivering a green and just recovery. This can be done by managing the risks associated with transitioning to low-carbon economies, mitigating the impacts on biodiversity, engaging with companies on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and, ultimately, accounting for the sustainability impacts of their financial activities. To achieve this, the financial professional services industry needs to be better equipped with the right education and training in order to mainstream green finance knowledge and skills.
The European Commission has taken a leading role in accelerating sustainable finance by encouraging member states to develop national strategies for financial education with a strong sustainable finance component. There are also calls for the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to assist countries in embedding sustainable finance in their financial literacy programmes and to reflect sustainable finance considerations within the OECD recommendations on national strategies for financial education.
In June 2020, the world’s first Green Finance Education Charter was launched in the United Kingdom, which collectively commits signatories to incorporating green and sustainable finance principles and practice into their education and training programmes for professionals worldwide. The launch of the charter acknowledges the increasing need for the finance sector globally to develop new capabilities through relevant education and training in green finance principles and practice.
On 14 October 2020 at 11.00 CET, the Green Finance Platform and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) will host a webinar, “Fostering Economic Recovery through Green Finance Education” to discuss many of these issues.
