The Council (Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs), often abbreviated to EPSCO, work to improve the citizens’ standard of living and quality of life. To this end securing employment and a high level of social protection in health care, gender equality and other social aspects is a priority. The Council consists of the Ministers of Employment, Social Affairs, Health and Consumer Policy and assemble app. four times a year.

The Eurogroup is composed of the Eurogroup President, presently Jean-Claude Juncker, the Finance Minister of each Member State of the euro area, the Commissioner for economic and monetary affairs, and the President of the European Central Bank.
 
It was created in 1997 in order to enhance economic policy coordination amongst member states sharing the single currency. These countries currently include: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.

20 years after the first “Earth Summit”, UN’s first Environment and Development Conference, which was also held in Rio de Janeiro, the Rio+20 Conference on sustainable development takes place in Rio de Janeiro 20-22 June 2012. Rio+20marks a milestone in global action for climate and environment. The first Rio Conference placed sustainable development at the top of the global agenda of the UN and the international society. The Conference was followed by a number of international meetings and conferences with the aim of addressing global challenges on climate and sustainability.

Meeting of Agriculture and Fisheries Council (AGRI)

The Council (Agriculture and Fisheries) consists of the Member States’ ministers of fisheries and agriculture and they congregate about once a month. The agricultural and fisheries policies relate to the regulation of markets and determination of avail-able resources. Sustainable development of fisheries and rural areas, challenges regarding climate change, environmental concerns, animal welfare and food safety are main issues.
