Save the date: Making the invisible visible - Screening for risk factors in heart health
More than 60 million people live with cardiovascular disease (CVD) in the EU and almost 40% of the adult population is at risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), regardless of age and lifestyle.
Despite its undeniable impact, ASCVD is generally unknown, and many people go undiagnosed until they experience a major cardiovascular event. However, 80% of premature cardiovascular events can be prevented.
‘Making the invisible visible’ is the key to tackling the burden of ASCVD. Targeted screening strategies on the basis of high-risk factors are essential to ensure early detection and links to care and to a reduction in mortality for those at high risk of developing life-threatening cardiovascular episodes.
Building on the momentum created by the EU Healthier Together Initiative, this online event aims to provide a platform for discussion between EU and national-level stakeholders to explore viable policy actions and good practices. A focus is placed on the importance of secondary prevention and early detection to improve health outcomes across all member states.
