Target group
EU regulatory affairs professionals, officials in the national regulatory and supervisory authorities, professionals from financial institutions who wish to obtain solid understanding of fundamental legal concepts, principles and procedures in EU financial services. Translators who need to acquaint themselves with the legal terminology used in this sector as well as other professionals wishing to systematise their knowledge of financial markets regulation will also benefit from this seminar.

Description
The current system for the regulation and supervision of the financial service sector aims at strengthening the functioning of financial institutions and mitigating the risk of market failure. The European financial services authorities are entrusted with competences pertaining to decision-making process and can actively shape the prudential regulation for financial services markets. During this seminar participants will learn about the institutional set-up for regulation and supervision in the area of financial services. Hereby, the different roles of respective bodies will be elucidated and the tasks entrusted to the European Supervisory Authorities will be presented. In addition, the participants will gain a better understanding of legal framework for financial services as well as EU law-making process in this field.

Learning methodology
The seminar will consist of presentations, question & answer sessions and workshop.

Objectives
The objectives of this seminar are three-fold:
• To provide participants with better understanding of the Lamfalussy procedure applying to financial services after the Lisbon Treaty.
• To introduce participants into the main principles applying to the EU legal framework for financial services.
• To present the current institutional set-up for the supervision of financial institutions.
