Judicial cooperation in criminal matters among EU Member States has not only become an everyday phenomenon but it is realized with an ever increased intensity.

The seminar seeks to discuss the pivotal instruments of EU judicial cooperation in criminal matters from a purely practical perspective such as the European Arrest Warrant, the 2000 Mutual Legal Assistance Convention, the Framework Decision on Financial Penalties and Framework Decision on Custodial Sentences.

Target group

The seminar is intended for officials from central and local governments, as well as managers from public enterprises who are involved in the formulation and implementation of state aid schemes. The seminar is also open to managers of enterprises that may be beneficiaries of state aid. Description.

This is a self-standing ‘immersion’ course. It is also a suitable basis for participation in the specialised courses offered by EIPA on particular aspects of EU decision-making.

The course first provides a framework for understanding EU decision-making. It briefly explains the treaty structure and the different kinds of competences which have been given to the EU. The different phases in the policy cycle are then addressed in detail, highlighting the changes introduced by the Lisbon Treaty.
